Plus Injection Therapy

VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION is a safe nonsurgical approach to the management of knee, hip, and shoulder arthritis. Licensed for use in Canada since 1999, this gel-like substance known as hyaluronic acid (HA) is marketed under a variety of names including Durolane, Orthovisc, Synvisc, and Monovisc among others.

When injected into an arthritic joint under guided ultrasound, HA acts as a joint lubricant and a shock absorber. For many clients, an HA injection results in a reduction in joint pain and an improvement in function for approximately 6-9 months. If desired, clients may repeat HA therapy every 6 months on an ongoing basis.

While the use of HA therapy alone is often effective, combined injection therapy and HA therapy has been shown to have even better results. In a recent research study comparing outcomes associated with the use of HA, injection therapy or a combination of both, the researchers identified that combined HA and injection therapy results in a more rapid improvement of symptoms.

Clients most likely to benefit from a regenerative approach to treatment with combined injection therapy and HA therapy include those with advanced osteoarthritis of the shoulder, hip, and knee.

Viscosupplementation

"My advanced shoulder arthritis was causing significant pain and loss of function. My Doctor told me that I was not a surgical candidate so I thought I would have to live with the pain. Thankfully a combined injection therapy / HA injection changed my life. Now I'm able to do things that I never thought I would ever do again."
